#Eda85daysinJapan | Chapter 4 (Hokuriku) | Kanazawa
🗓️ 16 May – 13 June 2026
📍 Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan
The idea of staying in Kanazawa for a whole month first came to me last year, around October to November. I kept seeing the place pop up on my social media and somehow I just had this strong urge to spend a full month there. It was simply an idea at first — no big plan, just a quiet feeling that I needed to go.
Looking back, everything somehow fell into place.
I couldn’t find a single room with kitchen facilities that fit my criteria, so I ended up with a three-person apartment all to myself. It was well-equipped with everything I needed, a bit away from the main town centre but with a supermarket and small shops nearby, and they even cleaned it twice a week. I cooked breakfast and dinner for myself almost every day and looked for lunch outside. I really have to thank that service apartment for giving me such great comfort when I needed it most.
Most of the time Kanazawa gave me the best weather — sunny and dry (sometimes even a bit hot). I didn’t really expect that because I had heard so much about its rainy reputation. People often call it “Little Kyoto,” but honestly that term is way too underrated — this place offers so much more. The mix of tradition, art and culture (I ended up revisiting Kenrokuen Garden and some museums a few times), together with the modern side of the city, felt very special. It has nurtured quite a number of artists, designers and thinkers over the years.
This month also became a quiet form of self-care for me. I cooked, walked a lot, went on hikes, and made space to meditate. The slower rhythm of the city made it easier to just be present.
I really appreciate the time I spent there. In many ways, Kanazawa nourished me deeply and even shifted my mindset a little. There were some quiet spiritual encounters too.
This place truly became one of the most meaningful parts of the entire journey.
